Itinerary description
Cusco is the air gateway to Puerto Maldonado. From there, travelers go by river to Tambopata, which has been called one of the most biologically diverse environments on earth. Birders often count 100 different species in a day, and the reserve is home to the largest known Macaw Lick in the world. Two to five-night programs are available.
Day 1

PUERTO MALDONADO
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, assistance at the airport and transfer to the pier. Enjoy a twenty-five-minute motor ride down the Madre de Dios river to the starting point of a 30-minute trek. After arriving at a small channel, board a dugout canoe for a short trip to Lake Sandoval. Continue the journey on a Catamaran, after lunch, board the Catamaran again to visit the west side of the lake. Early in the evening, have a look at the Macaws arriving to spend the night, at he palm forest. After dinner, start a canoe expedition in search of the impressive Black Caiman, overnight at Sandoval Lake Lodge.

Day 2
|
PUERTO MALDONADO
Very early wake up to visit the lake. Excellent opportunity to observe birds and, possibly, see the river wolves (an endangered species) while fishing their food. Return to the lodge. Demonstration of native techniques to collect, open, pack and the commercialize the Brazilian nuts, very important economical activity in the area. After lunch, be ready to visit the east part of the lake where you may appreciate more than one of the five species of monkeys inhabiting the place, being the Brown Capuchin the most remarkable one.
PUERTO MALDONADO
After breakfast, departure for the Madre de Dios river to board the motorboat to Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport and assistance on departure flight. |
